Reverend Fergus Jacobs Jr., a beloved child of God, devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and servant of the Lord, entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2026, at the age of 76. His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The Homegoing Service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 3802 Washington Street, Greenville, Texas 75401.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, October 09, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Love & Integrity Funeral Service, 4900 King Street, Greenville, Texas 75401.
Fergus was born on February 2, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to the late Victoria Simmons and Fergus Jacobs Sr. He graduated from Worthing High School in Houston, Texas, in 1968. Answering the call to serve his country, Fergus proudly served four years in the United States Army. He continued his education at Texas Southern University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1977. Returning to his alma mater, Fergus dedicated several years to teaching Automotive Technology and coaching varsity football at Worthing High School. His passion for automotive technology and football became important parts of his life. Rev. Jacobs impacted countless young people and families throughout Houston, Greenville, and surrounding communities. Fergus was affectionately known as the community mechanic. His knowledge, generosity, and willingness to help others made him a trusted friend and resource to many. Family, friends, neighbors, and community members knew they could turn to Mr. Jacobs when their vehicles needed repair, maintenance, or simply a knowledgeable diagnostic opinion. His willingness to share his time and talents was another reflection of the servant’s heart he carried throughout his life.
Fergus married his beloved wife, Lois, on June 12, 1993, and for 33 years, Lois remained devoted to Fergus. Faithfully standing by his side and shared with him life’s many joys, blessings, and challenges. Their love and commitment to one another were a beautiful testament to the covenant they shared.
In 1998, Fergus answered God’s call to ministry. As a pastor and shepherd, he faithfully served numerous congregations, including Mt. Zion Church in Mt. Vernon, Texas; Oak Grove in Leesburg, Texas; Wesley Chapel in Ladonia, Texas; Yeager Chapel in Wolfe City, Texas; Evening Chapel in Sulphur Springs, Texas; and, lastly, Mt. Zion in Cooper, Texas. Rev. Jacobs loved the Lord with all his heart and sought to live his life according to the will of God. His faith, compassion, wisdom, humility, and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him. Through his ministry, teaching, mentorship, and service to others, he touched lives in ways that will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
Fergus leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Lois; his daughters, Phernice Money (Freeman) and Timilya Wilkerson; his sons, Andre Wilkerson (Stephanie) and Cornelius Jacobs (Dawn); grandchildren, Chelsie Wilkerson, DeAndrea Hudson (Tyrell), Phoenix Richmond, and Landen Taylor; great-grandchildren, Trenton Horton, Drake Hudson, and Cameron Hudson; sister, Alice Faye Denkins; Mother in Love - Earlie Mae Wilkerson; niece, Yolanda Richmond (Clark); nephews, Ahundra Denkins (Bawana) a Dante Denkins; and a host of cousins, friends, and church family. Please keep his family in your love and prayers.
